COVID VACCINE, DEATH, AND VEN DIAGRAMS

Have you heard about someone dying shortly after receiving the COVID vaccine?  It’s in the news.  Does that concern you?  It shouldn’t, and here’s why.

                First, even if the shot could result in death, which there is no evidence it does, the death rate from this imagined risk is dwarfed by the very real 2% death rate from an actual COVID19 infection (>400,000 U.S. to date).  For more on this see my blog https://thechristianchiropractor.com/the-pragmatists-guide-to-the-covid19-vaccine-by-the-numbers/   And this 2% does not take into consideration the 12% who will have long-term symptoms and disability which could last months to years.  I’ve seen it.  It’s real.  It’s scary.    

                Second, not only did no one die during the phase 1, 2 and 3 testing of either vaccine, no one even had to be sent to the hospital.  But if that’s not reassuring enough then let’s consult with the United States Census Bureau and the CDC and make some good old fashioned ven diagrams.  Remember those from math class?

                According to the Census Bureau there are 330 million living Americans.  According to the CDC in 2019 there were 2.9 million deaths in the U.S., about 8,000 per day.  According to scientific estimates, in order to achieve herd immunity we need to vaccinate about 80% of the population, or 264 million people, not once but twice, so 528 million shots.  If we want to do this by July we have about 200 days to get the job done, so an average of 2.6 million shots per day. 

                Now to our ven diagrams.  Due to software limitations I’m going to ask you to use your imagination. Imagine a very large bubble representing 2.6 million shots being given each and every day. Now imaging a very small bubble (300 times smaller) representing 8,000 people dying per day. Now have the two bubbles just touching each other. This is our ven diagram.

                Inevitably, over a 200 day period, at some point the two bubbles will overlap at least a little or maybe a lot, probably many times. When they do it means that the people in the overlapping area are both getting their shot and will die in close temporal proximity.  It’s a statistical certainty given the large numbers involved.  However, each time it happens the media will flash this “breaking news” everywhere which will get shared all over social media igniting the human fear instinct and tendency for an overly dramatic worldview forcing many to conclude that the vaccine is killing people, when it’s just statistics.  People die after doing all sorts of things but this does not make these all sorts of things the cause of their death.  As they say, correlation does not prove causation, although it can suggest it.      

                Since correlation does suggest causation then of course each time the bubbles overlap the death must be investigated.  Of course if the vaccine kills even a single person we need to know so it can be made safer.  Until that day, however, which will be months to years from now, we still have over 400,000 Americans dead right now from the disease and many more lives are going to be at risk in the coming months.  These are real lives of real people running out of time, maybe yours or maybe mine, maybe a loved one, and the only way out is through herd immunity from the vaccine. There is no other way.

                As I’ve written and said elsewhere, it’s all of our duties to protect each other from ourselves.  From my perspective this means that I must roll up my sleeve.  It’s my duty.
